Matt Baker impresses judges
Matt Baker and Pamela Stephenson topped the leader board on 'Strictly Come Dancing' last night (01.10.10), each scoring 31 points for their routines.
Matt Baker was tipped as "one to watch" by 'Strictly Come Dancing' judges last night (01.10.10).
The 'Countryfile' host and professional partner Aliona Vilani came joint first on the leaderboard thanks to their outdoors-inspired cha cha cha routine as the first seven couples in this year's contest took to the dancefloor.
Awarding them a total mark of 31 points, the judging panel - Len Goodman, Alesha Dixon, Craig Revel Horwood and Bruno Tonioli were full of praise for the pair.
Craig said: "You sir are one to watch."
Excited Bruno added: "This year is going to be a classic. What I've seen tonight for first night is amazing, well done."
Also scoring 31 points were Pamela Stephenson and her professional partner James Jordan, who delighted the panel with their "breathtaking" waltz.
Len told them: "You can't win 'Strictly Come Dancing' in week one, what you can do is make a fantastic impression on absolutely everyone."
'EastEnders' hunk Scott Maslen and Natalie Lowe impressed with their waltz - though the judges jokingly claimed their performance was too "raunchy" for the sedate dance as they scored them 29 points.
Magician Paul Daniels found himself at the bottom of the leader board, scoring just 16 points, who revealed his partner Ola Jordan from a giant box at the beginning of the routine.
Afterwards, judge Craig told him: "The best thing about that for me was the empty box I'm afraid."
Also dancing last night were Goldie and Kristina Rihanoff, scoring 20 points, Felicity Kendall and Vincent Simone, who were given a mark of 23 and Patsy Kensit, who admitted to being terrified before her waltz with Robin Windsor, scoring 22 points.
The remaining couples will dance this evening (03.10.10).
