Cheryl Cole - who has mentored the winning act on the last two series of 'X Factor' - thinks her contestants this year are the best yet

Cheryl Cole is the "happiest she has ever been" with her 'X Factor' category.

The Girls Aloud singer - who missed the Boot Camp stage and some auditions after being stricken with malaria - returns to the competition tonight (02.10.10) and despite winning two series in a row, thinks the Girls she is mentoring this year are the best acts yet.

She tells them: "Just want to say that I'm the happiest I have ever been with my category. I couldn't be happier to have the girls, I'm buzzing. Back to health and back and I couldn't be happier."

However, she later admits she and helper will.i.am are struggling to choose their final three from eight potential singers.

She says: "My head's spinning."

Meanwhile, Natalie Imbruglia makes a return to the show when she joins Dannii Minogue - who she deputised for during a week of the early auditions when the Australian singer was on maternity leave - at in Melbourne to help her select which of the Boys category should go through to the final.

Also returning to the show is former judge Sharon Osbourne, who assists close friend Louis Walsh with the Over 28s.

One of her first tasks is to console the Irishman, who is dismayed by his category.

He tells her: "They are a very different, very colourful, very unusual category but I know that within that eight there's three great acts and I'm going to find them. I didn't want this category at first but now I'm feeling a lot more confident. And I've got people that are going to work so hard."

Fourth judge Simon Cowell is again joined by ex-girlfriend Sinitta as he makes his selection from the Groups.

'The X Factor' airs on ITV1 tonight and tomorrow (03.10.10).
