Jack Duckworth's ashes scattered with Vera
'Coronation Street's Jack Duckworth is to have his ashes scattered alongside those of late wife Vera at Blackpool Pier
'Coronation Street's Jack Duckworth will have his ashes scattered with those of his late wife Vera.
The veteran character - who has been played by actor Bill Tarmey for the past 31 years - is set to bow out of the ITV1 soap next month to coincide with the show's 50th anniversary.
Jack's close pal Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) will take his ashes for one last tram ride along the promenade of popular northern seaside resort Blackpool, before throwing them off the North Pier.
The ageing pigeon-lover's wife Vera (Elizabeth Dawn) had her ashes cast off the very same spot after she died of a heart attack in 2008, meaning one of TV's most-loved couples are set to be reunited once again.
An insider told The Sun newspaper: "After scattering Jack's ashes Tyrone says he can feel Vera's presence."
However, before the character - who is set to be diagnosed with terminal cancer - passes away, he is reportedly set to receive a visit from the ghost of his former spouse.
A source recently revealed: "Everyone thought at first he was going to die in the tram crash horror that is being lined up to mark the show's 50th anniversary. But that was never going to be the case. Bosses wanted Jack to go out in some style."
Bill has been working part-time on 'Coronation Street' since September 2009 due to continuing health problems.
