Cathy Murphy joins EastEnders
British actress Cathy Murphy has joined 'EastEnders' for the third time, and is set to portray Julie Perkins, an old friend of Billy Mitchell.
Cathy Murphy is joining 'EastEnders' for the third time.
The 43-year-old actress is set to rejoin the BBC One soap - where she has previously had two smaller roles - as feisty Albert Square newcomer Julie Perkins, an old friend of Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick).
She said: "Like our characters, I've known Perry since I was 16 and he is a brilliant actor. We've never worked together before so I am looking forward to getting stuck into our fantastic rollercoaster of a story."
In 2005, Cathy portrayed Trisha Taylor, the mother of Demi Miller's boyfriend Leo, and grandmother to their child. This followed a smaller role in the show in 1997 as Lorna.
However, bosses on the soap are delighted to bring Cathy back for the third time as an "anecdote to the snarling women of Albert Square".
However, her move to Walford will not run smoothly and her friendship with Billy is set to reveal some shocking secrets about his past.
An 'EastEnders' spokesperson said: "Julie and Billy have a real connection despite being out of each other's lives since they were teenagers.
"She's a true Cockney sparrow and tells it like it is. However, Billy is staggered to learn he may have more skeletons in the closet waiting to be discovered."
