Coronation Street goes virtual
A virtual reality game 'Corrie Nation' based on the soap 'Coronation Street' will launch in November.
'Coronation Street' bosses plan to launch a social networking game based on the ITV soap.
'Corrie Nation' will give players the chance to build their own virtual Weatherfield - including the Rovers Return pub and Underworld knicker factory - and fill it with their favourite characters from the last 50 years of the show.
The reality game - which is set to launch on social networking site Facebook and ITV.com in November - will allow players to compete against each other for points which can then be swapped for spoilers from the programme.
Users will then be able to set their characters tasks they think they should do in current storylines.
The game - which is the first of its kind based on a British soap - will also give people the opportunity to revisit their favourite moments from past episodes of 'Coronation Street' and even bring back much-loved deceased characters such as Vera Duckworth (Elizabeth Dawn) or Blanche Hunt (Maggie Jones).
Kieran Roberts, Creative Director, Manchester Drama at ITV Studios said: "We're delighted this brilliantly imaginative new game will take the show onto new platforms whilst remaining truthful to 50 years of heritage and everything viewers love about 'Corrie'."
'Coronation Street' will celebrate its 50th anniversary this year with a series of dramatic storylines including a horrific tram crash which will wipe out many of its most popular residents.
