'Coronation Street' legend Bill Roache reportedly had tears in his eyes as he watched one-off drama 'The Road to Coronation Street', which highlighted the early years on the show
Bill Roache had "tears in his eyes" as he watched 'The Road to Coronation Street'.
The soap veteran - who has portrayed Ken Barlow in 'Coronation Street' since it launched in 1960 - was emotional when he saw the finished version of film about the early days on the soap.
His co-star David Dawson said: "We watched the drama together. Bill is a lovely man and had tears in his eyes at the end. You forget it has been 50 years of his life and a little bit of it is being shown on the screen."
The one-off drama - which airs tonight on BBC Four at 9pm - highlights how 'Coronation Street' creator Tony Warren fought against executives at Granada to air the show in the beginning, and its difficult early episodes.
It also stars his son James portraying Bill in his younger years.
James said: "I watched old clips of daddy. It will be very strange watching it with him. He was very dashing. It's the Roache genes."
'The Road to Coronation Street' sees Jessie Wallace play Elsie Tanner actress Pat Phoenix, Jane Horrocks, Henry Goodman, Steven Berkoff and Celia Imrie star.
James added: "The cast is amazing it was such a privilege."
