Jessie Wallace's Corrie worries
'EastEnders' actress Jessie Wallace admits she was ''worried'' that her appearance in one-off drama 'The Road to Coronation Street' would confuse viewers
Jessie Wallace was "worried" about appearing in 'The Road to Coronation Street'.
The actress - who is about to reprise her role as Kat Moon in 'EastEnders' - admits she was concerned fans of the BBC One soap would be confused when they saw her appearing in a drama about the rival ITV1 show 'Coronation Street'.
She said: "Appearing in a drama about 'Coronation Street' just as I'm about to return to 'EastEnders' has worried me a bit, from the point of view of confusing the viewers."
Kat is set to return to Albert Square with her husband Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) shortly after Jessie portrays legendary 'Coronation Street' actress Pat Phoenix - who played Weatherfield legend Elsie Tanner - in a one-off drama about the early days of the show.
However, the 38-year-old star believes the differing appearances of the two characters could mean viewers don't realise they are both being played by her.
She explained to the Daily Mirror newspaper: "I look so different bulked up to play Pat Phoenix from slimmed-down Kat, viewers may not realise it's the same actress playing the two parts."
Jessie was thrilled to be asked to portray late actress Pat in the 'Coronation Street' drama - which airs tonight on BBC4 - and would love to be compared to the actress.
She explained: "I'd be really chuffed, not least because it would show I was getting the portrayal right.
"I'm open-minded enough to believe Pat could haunt these studios. I've been aware of her being here with me while I've been filming. If people have been hearing me speaking as Pat and actually thinking it's her, that's great news.
"I admit it's been tough but I enjoy a challenge and I've actually been having a ball, playing Pat. And while it's true that I've agonised over the part, that's only because I want to get it absolutely right. It's why I've spent hour upon hour listening to Pat on the internet - often late into the night - either as Elsie Tanner in 'Coronation Street' or as herself in chat show interviews."
