Alex Tobin is a recent graduate from Edinburgh College of Art. In 2008, he lived and studied as a foreign resident in the city of Kyoto: an experience that has shaped his work since.
Alex’s practice is multi-disciplinary, encompassing performance, drawing, film, music, installation and digital art. The unusual properties of computer programming are often extended into physical space, with custom software in control of various tangible elements of installations or performances. This weird misinterpretation of rules runs throughout his visual style too, evoking bad dreams, Asian folk stories, pseudo-philosophy, hyper-surreal sports events, and haunted restaurants. Most recently, Alex has been designing for Edinburgh-based Tightlaced Theatre, and exhibiting in Embassy Gallery’s 2010 graduate show Meatforce.
