Samia Smith thrilled about Corrie love
'Coronation Street' actress Samia Smith admits she thinks it is ''nice'' her alter-ego Maria Connor is set to find love again in an upcoming storyline
Samia Smith thinks it's "nice" her 'Coronation Street' character is about to start dating again.
The actress - who plays hairdresser Maria Connor, who was widowed in October 2008 - can't wait for her alter-ego to meet a new man in a new storyline, even though they won't compare to her real-life husband Matthew Smith.
She told BANG Showbiz: "It's nice, I just roll with whatever the writers are doing.
"Which cast member would I want it to be? Oh I couldn't say that, my husband's not a cast member but, you know, it'd be him."
However, the 28-year-old actress - who raises 11-month-old daughter Freya with Matthew -doesn't expect her character's love life to run smoothly.
She said: "I don't know, I've had some weird storylines in my time, so I can't comment on anything!"
As well as looking forward to Maria finding love again, Samia can't wait to work on the special live episode which will be aired later this year as part of the soap's 50th anniversary celebrations.
Speaking at the TVChoice Awards at London's Dorchester Hotel, she said: "It's nice. There's lots of exciting stuff happening because it's the 50th. It's nice to be involved in it all.
"I can't wait for the live episode. I was there for the 40th and it'll be nice to do it again."
As well as the live show, members of the much-loved soap also face the axe in an upcoming storyline which will see several key characters killed off in a huge tram crash.
However, Samia is convinced her job is secure.
When asked if she is worried Maria might be killed off, she laughed: "No!"
