Carla Connor's drink driving arrest
'Coronation Street's Carla Connor will be arrested for drink driving in a stark warning to motorists during the Christmas season
'Coronation Street's Carla Connor will be arrested for drink driving in a Christmas special.
The episode will see the businesswoman - played by Alison King, 37 - being pulled over by police after knocking back champagne at the opening of Nick Tilsley (Ben Price)'s new bar, and will come as a stark warning to motorists not to drink and drive during the holiday season.
A Coronation Street insider told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "Carla's drink driving will be portrayed sensitively.
"But we hope the message of how easy it is to fall foul of the drink-drive laws, especially at that time of the year, will hit home to viewers.
"If we manage to stop even a handful of people from being tempted then we'll have done our job."
Viewers will see the knicker factory boss failing a breathalyser test before being taken to the police station. She then has her driving licence taken away after a court appearance.
Before her arrest, Carla had vowed to stop drinking after becoming worried she was turning into an alcoholic.
But at the party, the singleton decided to drown her sorrows as she was surrounded by happy couples.
She will later be seen breaking down as she realises how difficult it will be to run the factory - which had only just recovered from being burned down by her ex-husband Tony Gordon - without being able to drive.
