Simon Cowell to reinstate Shirlena?
'The X Factor' judge Simon Cowell has vowed to reconsider his decision to axe kooky contestant Shirlena Johnson from the show, and may seek further medical advice.
Simon Cowell has vowed to reconsider his decision to axe 'X Factor' contestant Shirlena Johnson.
The music mogul - who sits on the judging panel of the reality show alongside Louis Walsh, Cheryl Cole and Dannii Minogue - has decided to get a second medical expert to look at the eccentric star's mental health, to see if she is well enough to continue in the show.
Bosses dropped the mother-of-one earlier this month after it was claimed she had several mental health problems.
Simon told The Sun newspaper: "It was regrettable that we had to lose such a popular performer as Shirlena in these circumstances but the advice we got was that we should not let her continue. But I'd maybe like to get a second opinion so we are absolutely sure that she should no longer be part of the show. I still think it is very upsetting that she will no longer be able to make some money for herself and her daughter because of this.
"But obviously we have to be responsible and the welfare of our contestants is of paramount concern."
Last week, Simon admitted he "loves" Shirlena, but is unable to alter his decision.
He said: "I love Shirlena Johnson just as much as you do. At the moment it seems our hands are tied and I'm very upset for her. I really wish we could do something to change things. I know she wants to make a better life for herself. I don't want this to be the end of Shirlena and 'The X Factor' but we can't find a solution at the moment because of the advice we are being given."
Shirlena - who is mother to three-year-old Mariah - impressed the judges with a kooky version of Duffy's hit 'Mercy', but was then removed from the show after experts suggested she may be unable to mentally cope with life in the spotlight.
