Hayley to leave 'Coronation Street'?
Julie Hesmondhalgh plans to take some time off from 'Coronation Street' to go on a world trip with her family.
'Coronation Street' star Julie Hesmondhalgh may leave the soap for a while.
The actress - who plays dowdy transsexual Hayley Cropper in the ITV soap - wants to take a sabbatical from the show, as Sally Dynevor, who plays long-suffering mother Sally Webster recently has.
She said: "I'm inspired by all the stuff she's been saying about sorting her priorities. I'd quite like to do a big world trip with the family."
Show executives are said to be supportive of her plans, and may write her out of the show to allow her to travel.
A spokesperson for ITV said: "As long as we have notice, we should be able to accommodate her request."
Julie has played Hayley for the last 12 years, and spends much of her time in the cafe she runs with husband Roy Cropper (David Neilson).
However, her usually sedate life has turned around in the last year, with her held hostage by killer Tony Gordon in one recent storyline.
It would not be the first time she has left the soap - in 2007, Hayley took a year off to volunteer as an aid worker in South Africa.
