Natalie Cassidy shocked by Enders crack
Former 'EastEnders' actress Natalie Cassidy admits she was shocked when she saw the soap's hardman Phil Mitchell taking crack cocaine on the show at 8pm
Natalie Cassidy thinks it was "outrageous" for 'EastEnders' to show Phil Mitchell taking crack cocaine.
The actress - who has played Sonia Jackson in the BBC One soap on and off since 1993 - admits she was shocked when she watched the soap hardman, played by Steve McFadden, taking the illegal drugs during scenes aired earlier this month.
She told new! magazine: "I couldn't believe what I was seeing! Don't get me wrong - Steve McFadden who plays Phil is one of the best actors on the show and he did a great job, but to have such graphic drug-taking at 8pm on a Monday night is just outrageous! You can't swear or show two people making love before the watershed, yet you can show people smoking Class A drugs. I was really shocked."
Although Natalie was not keen on the storyline - which has seen the BBC receive hundreds of complaints - actor Steve recently admitted he felt it would be beneficial for his character to go through such troubled times.
He said: "I think he'll come out the other side of this a wiser and older owl. He'll be stronger and a more complete person."
"Doing a storyline like this drains the life out of you. I can honestly say this has been my most challenging and exciting year in 'EastEnders'."
