'Shameless' actor Elliott Tittensor has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

The 20 year-old star - who plays Carl Gallagher in the Channel 4 show - gave himself up to police after a teenager was run over in London in the early hours of yesterday (15.08.10) morning.

It is alleged Elliott deliberately drove his BMW car at the unnamed 18-year-old, leaving him with severe head injuries. He was taken to hospital where doctors fear he could lose his sight.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "Tittensor apparently deliberately drove his car straight at him. Though he was only driving slowly, the boy went up on the bonnet, rolled into the road and struck his head on the kerb."

It is presently unknown if the pair had an altercation before the incident, though according to witnesses, the victim had recognised Elliott and his girlfriend Kaya Scodelario - who is an actress in teen drama 'Skins' - as they dined in a branch of McDonalds.

The teenager is said to have tried to talk to the couple, then followed them into the street when they left.

Elliott is said not to have stopped driving after the victim had been hit, but passed a police breath test. Detectives are said to be interviewing witnesses, including Kaya.

Barmaid Louise McCluney, who was at the scene, described the scene to the Daily Mirror newspaper, saying: "I heard sirens and saw flashing lights across the street. The police had closed off the road and I was told there had been a nasty crash. I believe the guy was in a bad way, but I couldn't get close enough to see anything."
