John Stape's baby joy

'Coronation Street's John Stape (Graeme Hawley) is thrilled to learn wife Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) is expecting his baby, though she isn't as thrilled by the news.

'Coronation Street's John Stape thinks having a baby is the best thing that could happen for him and wife Fiz.

The murderous teacher - played by Graeme Hawley - is delighted when his wife (Jennie McAlpine) returns from holiday and says she is pregnant as he believes it will help put all their problems behind them.

Jennie said: "Fiz went on holiday because she needed some space. But while she was away, she discovered that she's pregnant - and in her eyes, it's the worst possible timing.

"John thinks it's great though - he has this strange idea that a child will bring them together as a family and he can forget everything he's done in the past."

Fiz is left more unhappy when her brother Chesney (Sam Aston) says getting pregnant was a "stupid thing" to do.

Jennie added: "Chesney tells Fiz that getting pregnant was a stupid thing to do - and he's got a point.

"The way Fiz sees it, now it's happened, she may as well get excited about the prospect of being a mum. But when Chesney points out the pitfalls, it brings her right back down to earth with a bump. He's usually right about these things as well!"
