Ricky Whittle is lending his support to this year's BeMOBO Award.
The former 'Hollyoaks' actor is acting as an ambassador for the initiative, which was created by the Music Of Black Origin Awards (MOBOs) five years ago to help deepen engagement across communities, beyond the parameters of music.
The annual BeMOBO Award acknowledges the hard work and special contribution made by an individual or organisation that orchestrates significant changes via grass roots, educational or community schemes.
The MOBOs are taking place in Liverpool - where Ricky lives - in October so people are encouraged to enter if their efforts primarily impact the North West of England.
Ricky, who presented the Best African Act award in 2007, has said of the awards: "I love the MOBO Awards, and I'm made up they're in my back yard this year.
"I've been up to the ceremony in Glasgow last year and to the ones in London, so to have it here, in our city of culture, is fantastic. The biggest stars will be here. Internationally, the MOBO Awards are a massive thing. I've sat at tables with Hollywood legends. One time I turned around and Quentin Tarantino was sitting right behind me."
Kanya King - founder of the MOBO Awards - said: "As we celebrate our 15th birthday in Liverpool, a vibrant city recognised for its outstanding contribution to music, culture and creativity, we are looking forward to the BeMOBO Award showcasing our commitment to the local community. It's the first time the Award has been run as a regional initiative and we're already starting to see some very exciting entries come through."
Nominations for the BeMOBO Award can be submitted directly to MOBO via the entry page on the website at www.mobo.com and it closes at the end of tomorrow (14.08.10).
