Jack Duckworth's surprise for Sally
'Coronation Street's Jack Duckworth buys Sally Webster (Sally Dynevor) to theatre tickets after learning she has always wanted to go as part of his plan to make his friends happy before he dies.
'Coronation Street's Jack Duckworth makes Sally Webster's dream come true.
The cancer-stricken former barman - played by Bill Tarmey - overhears the seamstress (Sally Dynevor) saying she has always wanted to go to the theatre but has never been able to afford it, so he buys her some tickets.
Sally - who is in remission from breast cancer - is mystified when the two tickets pop through her letterbox the next day, but is delighted to get her wish.
However, Jack's actions could have further repercussions.
Sally's husband Kevin (Michael Le Vell) isn't keen to go with her, so she asks Molly Dobbs (Vicky Binns) along - unaware that she had an affair with the mechanic and could be carrying his child.
It was revealed earlier this week that after learning he has terminal cancer, Jack draws up a list of everything he has ever wanted to do and is determined to complete it - as well as make his pals happy along the way - before he dies.
A source said: "Phil Collinson, the producer, thinks it's a touching story. Jack's a much-loved character and deserves a decent send-off.
"There were rumours that he'd be killed in the planned tram crash but that would short-change viewers."
Bill, 69, announced his intention to quit the show earlier this year.
His character Jack will be told he has cancer in October this year before seeing out his life with some fun adventures.
It had previously been rumoured much-loved character Jack will win the lottery before he dies.
