MTV are to launch 'Being Victor', an online drama series starring 'Waterloo Road's Dean Smith
MTV is launching an online teen drama.
The network will screen 'Being Victor' - the story of Vinnie Dupe and his successful alter ego, blogger Victor Sage - on MTV.co.uk from September 7, with the series set to air for 20 episodes, lasting between five and eight minutes.
The show features 'Waterloo Road' actor Dean Smith in the title role and will focus on the lives of Vinnie and his friends as they struggle with college, family, work and the nightmarish social rules of teenage life.
Dan Patton, Director of Digital Media, MTV Networks UK & Ireland revealed the reason for the digital only programme.
He said: "Viewing habits are evolving. Our audiences watch TV online and on mobile devices on the go, therefore we want to provide them with dedicated and ground-breaking content for these platforms. The elements that make 'Being Victor' special are intrinsic to the fact that it is born online and will grow online to become whatever fans want to make it."
Director Robert Elliott is enthusiastic about the realism of the show and thinks it will appeal to teenagers.
He said: "'Being Victor' is a drama that will raise real issues. It will play out online across a number of platforms including YouTube, Facebook and Twitter to engage its teenage audience."
Fans will be able to interact with the MTV drama, once it goes live, through discussion forums and the different characters' blogs.
MTV have had a 10-week online build-up using social media tools - such as twitter feeds from the characters - to build a pre-show fan base.
