Paula Abdul lined up for Idol return
'American Idol' executive producer Nigel Lythgoe wants Paula Abdul to return to the talent show as he thinks she's a great judge
Nigel Lythgoe wants Paula Abdul to return to 'American Idol'.
The 47-year-old singer quit her role on the judging panel last year - being replaced by Ellen DeGeneres - but now the show's executive producer wants her back, even though she recently signed a deal with rival US network CBS.
He said: "I still love Paula. She's signed to CBS, probably exclusively, but I'd recommend we have her in a heartbeat."
Nigel left his position as executive producer on the show two years ago - having been there from its 2002 start - but has now returned and wants to shake-up the judging panel, following the uncertainty surrounding it.
Simon Cowell is leaving after this series to concentrate on the US version of 'The X Factor', Ellen has already announced her departure, Randy Jackson has admitted he doesn't know what's happening while Kara DioGuardi looks set to stay, despite reports she had been fired.
Speaking about speculation Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler are set to join the panel, Nigel - who will run the show alongside Simon Fuller, Cecile Frot-Coutaz and Ken Warwick - says he would be happy with both additions.
He told Variety: "They can knock her film career, but audiences know she's a good actress. And as J-Lo she had some great pop records. If she joins, I'm happy."
"Tyler has come through that whole rock 'n' roll circus. Why wouldn't you want a legend there? You never know what he's going to say. That, as a TV producer, you're interested in."
