Former 'Coronation Street' star Geoffrey Hughes is seriously ill in hospital after his cancer returned
Geoffrey Hughes is seriously ill in hospital.
The 66-year-old actor - who played binman Eddie Yeats in 'Coronation Street' and Twiggy in 'The Royle Family' - collapsed with back pains at his Isle of Wight home last Friday (30.07.10) and doctors at Portsmouth's Queen Alexandra Hospital gave him the shock news his prostate cancer had returned after beating it last year.
He has now undergone intense radiotherapy and his wife has been keeping a bedside vigil.
A source said: "Geoffrey is not in a very good way. He is undergoing heavy radiotherapy and is in terrible discomfort.
"He thought he was over the worst after his treatment last year so it was a massive shock to find out it had returned.
"He's a fighter and he is doing his damnedest to try to beat it again. Sue is showering him with love but it is an awful situation."
Although Geoffrey has never spoken about his battle with cancer, he has publicly supported many cancer charities.
As well as 'Coronation Street' and 'The Royle Family', Geoffrey has also appeared in 'Keeping Up Appearances', 'Heartbeat' and 'Skins'.
