Ben Shephard says goodbye to GMTV
TV presenter Ben Shephard filmed his final ever day on 'GMTV' today (30.07.10), admitting his working on the ITV1 morning show helped him grow up
Ben Shephard thinks 'GMTV' helped him grow up.
The British TV presenter filmed his last day on the ITV1 morning show today (30.07.10) after 10 years, and although he is sad to go, he admits working on the programme helped him become an adult.
He said: "It's really difficult, and I was talking to my wife Annie last night and we were trying to work out what this has been like, because of course, 'GMTV' has been such a big part of my life for the last 10 years. As you know, we've both got married, I've had children. She said, 'I suppose in a way, you've kind of nearly become a grown-up'. And there's a reason for that, it's because of all the fantastic people I've worked with here."
The 35-year-old star - who is set to move to Sky Sports - was also full of praise for his co-host Kate Garraway, who he has worked closely with over the years.
He said: "I'm going to miss Kate more than anything in the world, it's been an absolute pleasure."
Kate - who will become the entertainment correspondent when 'GMTV' is rebranded as 'Daybreak' this autumn - paid tribute to Ben's professionalism, humour and "nice guy" persona.
She added: "There are people in television who are great professionals, there's people in television who have a good sense of humour, and there's people in TV who are genuinely nice guys. But there's very few who are all three. It's been an absolute honour to share this sofa with you Ben Shephard for the last 10 years, and I genuinely mean that."
Ben signed off the show admitting to viewers that he isn't going to miss the early starts but is excited about his future.
He said: "There are lots of things going on and I'm sure I'm going to see you again. But for the time being, let's have a lie in."
