Corinne Bailey Rae's independent ideals
'Like A Star' singer Corinne Bailey Rae has revealed she would rather find her feet and perform on her own than collaborate with other artists
Corinne Bailey Rae isn't interested in collaborating with other artists.
The 'Put Your Records On' hitmaker - who recently returned to the music scene with second album 'The Sea' after a two-year hiatus - thinks she needs to work alone in order to get more confident in her own abilities.
Speaking to Absolute Radio's Geoff Lloyd at this weekend's Latitude Festival, she explained: "I always get asked, 'Oh who would you like to collaborate with?' and I just feel like as a musician I'm still finding my feet.
"You know, this album I've done, it's the first time I've co-produced. It's an album I've written and I've written all the songs on my own, I haven't done co-writes with people, and that's what I enjoy. So I think in terms of collaborating with people, I like to just keep at it on my own for a bit."
The 31-year-old singer and songwriter admitted while she is a friend of Motown legend Stevie Wonder, she would never want to "leech" off his fame by singing with him.
She said: "You know, I like to just hang out with him now. Its funny, you meet people and you sort of like them a lot and you're not trying to sort of leech them. I'm not trying to leech his fame, you know, so I'm not like, 'Oh shine your fame light on me'."
