'Bread' actress Gilly Coman has died of a suspected heart attack.
The 54 -year-old star - who was best known for her role as Aveline in the Liverpudlian show - reportedly died suddenly after falling unwell with chest pains.
Speaking about the late TV star, 'Bread' writer, Carla Lane said: "She was a nice girl, a good actress and she never questioned the lines I gave her.
"She knew how to walk to make people laugh and she knew the character better than I did."
As well as playing the legendary character, Gilly also appeared in 'Brookside', 'Coronation Street' and 'Emmerdale' before giving up her career in 2000 to focus on being a mother to her three sons and one daughter with her photographer husband Phil.
Gilly played flame-haired Aveline for five series of the show and was watched by more than 21 million when her character married Protestant vicar Oswald in 1988.
Her lifelong friend Jane Joseph told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "She was a fantastic actress, the original Aveline.
"Gilly told me when she went to her first audition she dressed the part and that's how she got it, everyone fell about the place.
"As far as I am concerned, she was a person to look up to. She made her own way in the acting community and really carved out her career.
"She was also a marvellous mother. She gave up her career for her children."
