Matt Smith to quit Doctor?
Friends of Matt Smith claim the actor wants to quit 'Doctor Who' to embark on a movie career
Matt Smith is reportedly planning to quit 'Doctor Who'.
The 27-year-old actor - who has just completed his first series as the titular Timelord in the BBC sci-fi drama - is said to have told pals he wants to give up the role at the end of his second series to embark on a movie career.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "Matt plans to quit after the next series. He is eager to try new things and thinks Hollywood beckons."
A spokesperson for the BBC - who had hoped Matt would spend longer in the role than the three seasons his predecessor David Tennant did - insists the star has not made any long-term decisions about his future with the show.
They said: "Matt is filming the Christmas special and then goes on to film the second series.
"Beyond that, the BBC and Matt won't speculate on things."
Apart from 'Doctor Who', Matt - who is dating model Daisy Lowe - recently finished filming a BBC2 drama about gay writer Christopher Isherwood, due to air later this year.
