Derek Hough for Strictly special
'Dancing With The Stars' professional Derek Hough is set to appear in a one-off 'Strictly Come Dancing' special
Derek Hough is set to star in a one-off 'Strictly Come Dancing' special.
The professional dancer - who is close pals with Girls Aloud singer Cheryl Cole, and was holidaying with her in Tanzania when she contracted malaria recently - will appear in the BBC ballroom dance show in an upcoming special.
Bosses at the network had hoped to sign the 25-year-old star up for the entire series as a professional dancer, but he had to decline because of his commitments to 'Dancing With The Stars' in America.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "He's excited about taking part, but it'll be bitter sweet as Cheryl's illness means she will miss a lot of 'The X Factor'. She would have been a fun TV rival."
'Strictly.' judge Craig Revel Horwood recently admitted he would love the "gorgeous" dancer to appear on the show all the time, and revealed Derek was close pals with other judge Bruno Tonioli too.
He said: "That'd be fabulous. Not only is he gorgeous, but he's a brilliant dancer, a fantastic teacher and an amazing choreographer - you don't usually get that in one package. I have met him, but it's Bruno who knows him very well. It was Bruno who suggested Derek to Cheryl for her 'Parachute' video."
