Kirk Sutherland has the X Factor
Andy Whyment stunned fans when he made an appearance at the Manchester auditions for 'The X Factor' in the guise of his 'Coronation Street' character Kirk Sutherland.
'Coronation Street's Kirk Sutherland has auditioned for 'The X Factor'.
Actor Andy Whyment - in character as the factory delivery driver - stunned the audience at the Manchester auditions at the weekend when he performed for judges Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and guest panellist Nicole Scherzinger, who was standing in for Dannii Minogue who is currently on maternity leave.
Show bosses have remained tight-lipped as to why Kirk would be auditioning for the programme, but it is believed his appearance before the judges will be incorporated into an episode around the show's 50th anniversary later this year.
However, it has also been reported that his appearance was for a stunt, not part of a storyline.
Kirk recently lost his job in the show after knicker factory Underworld burned down during the siege.
This is not the first time Andy has showcased his vocal talents to be judged.
In 2006, he was runner-up in soap singing contest 'Soapstar Superstar', losing out in the final to his co-star Richard Fleeshman.
