'Proud' Corrie star Jessie Wallace
Former 'EastEnders' actress Jessie Wallace is ''proud'' about starring in 'Florizel Street', a one-off drama show about the launch of 'Coronation Street'
Jessie Wallace is "proud" to star in a show about 'Coronation Street'.
The former 'EastEnders' actress is currently working on 'Florizel Street', where she is delighted to portray iconic actress Pat Phoenix in the one-off show based around the early stages of the 40-year-old soap.
She said: "I'm proud and excited to be playing the role of such an iconic actress as Pat. And I'm loving my part in telling the story of 'Coronation Street'."
The role should come easily to Jessie, as her 'EastEnders' alter-ego Kat Moon has always been known for her man-loving ways and penchant for an alcoholic drink - just like Pat's iconic character Elsie Tanner.
Bosses on the BBC Four show are hopeful the 38-year-old actress will make the one-off drama special a success because of the ease in which she has mastered the new character.
A BBC source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Jessie can relate to Pat and Elsie and for that reason the drama looks set to be a hit."
Jessie is set to return to Albert Square later this year and reprise her role as Kat following a five-year break from the show.
