Star struck Craig Gazey
'Coronation Street's Craig Gazey was star struck when he first met soap legend Bill Tarmey and wants to be part of the new Jack and Vera.
'Coronation Street's Craig Gazey was star struck when he first met soap legend Bill Tarmey.
The 28-year-old actor - who plays dopey butcher Graeme Proctor in the ITV soap - admits a compliment from the show veteran made his day, because Bill's alter-ego Jack Duckworth had always been his favourite 'Coronation Street' character.
Discussing his beloved co-stars, he said: "Bill Tarmey. I loved Jack and Vera - they were massive at the time I used to watch when I was a child.
"When I did meet him the first thing he said was: 'You son, are bloody brilliant!' I was so touched."
Because Gazey grew up watching the antics of Jack and Vera (Liz Dawn), he hopes to one day be part of a similar iconic screen relationship.
He said: "I'd love my character Graeme to have a relationship like Jack had with Vera."
And the actor hints that Graeme may have found his very own Vera in the form of pretty Tina McIntyre played by Michelle Keegan.
He added: "Watch this space. I'm filming stuff soon, so I might find my own Vera."
