Doctor Who wannabe Arlene Phillips
Arlene Phillips has revealed she likes to think of herself as a glamorous, intergalactic 'Doctor Who' assistant
Arlene Phillips thinks she is a 'Doctor Who' assistant.
The 67-year-old choreographer - who was famously axed from the 'Strictly Come Dancing' judging panel and replaced by Alesha Dixon in 2009 - admits she would love to be a glamorous, intergalactic side-kick to the biggest time traveller on television.
She told BANG Showbiz: "I like to think I'm like any of the 'Doctor Who' assistants, but I know I'm not."
The current Doctor is played by 27-year-old Matt Smith, and his sexy assistant Amy Pond is portrayed by pretty redhead Karen Gillan, 22.
Since Arlene filmed her last episode on the ballroom dance programme in 2008, she has judged 'So You Think You Can Dance' as well as working on several shows for the West End theatre district.
She quipped: "I am the Simon Cowell of the dance world!"
Arlene is currently working on a new stage adaptation of 'Flashdance the Musical', which is due to open later this year.
Discussing her hectic workload, she said: "I've had many propositions, but have not made any decisions on what I want to do, as I am busy with the choreography for 'Flashdance', quickly followed by the Wizard of Oz.
"'Flashdance' is still in the early stages, so famous faces and TV link ups are a possibility but it's too early to say. The name of the show is such an iconic one, people will be expecting a Jennifer Beals lookalike, I'm sure!"
