Natalie Imbruglia was taunted by the audience as she stood in for Dannii Minogue on 'The X Factor' judging panel.
The singer-and-actress - who had a worldwide hit in 1997 with 'Torn' - was covering for the pregnant star at the auditions for the ITV1 talent show at Birmingham's NEC but she failed to win over the crowds of people watching.
When Natalie - who sat on the panel with Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and Cheryl Cole - didn't put a boy of 16 through, saying he was "too young", there were boos and several screams of "one-hit wonder".
One audience member told BANG Showbiz: "Natalie really was awful. She wasn't in tune with what we were all thinking and made some odd decisions. I can't wait for Dannii to return."
As well as failing to connect with the audience the 35-year-old pop star also clashed with two wannabe contestants, who turned on her after their performance of 'Don't Stop Believin' went wrong.
A crowd member told The Sun newspaper: "They had only been on for two seconds when one got the hump, chucked the microphone in the other's face and stormed off. She eventually came back and they started to sing. Simon stopped them and said one was better than the other, but they were both pretty awful. Natalie piped up that they weren't very good and one of them just snapped, 'Sorry, who are you?'
"Poor Natalie couldn't believe it and Simon told them they had a bad attitude."
An 'X Factor' spokesperson added: "Things got a bit heated. Producers quickly stepped in."
