'Coronation Street' will lead the Manchester Pride parade on August 28.

A carnival float full of cast and crew will lead celebrations of the gay pride parade - which will have a 'Through the Decades' theme - as they travel through the packed city centre and party with onlookers as part of their 50th anniversary celebrations.

The 'Coronation Street' vehicle will head up the route followed by over 100 other travelling groups.

Kieran Roberts, executive producer for the ITV1 soap, said: "This is going to be one of the best weekends of the year in the city, and we're honoured that Manchester Pride has allowed us to head up the country's most glamorous parade. Prepare for Corrie like you've never seen it before".

Festival director Jackie Crozier believes the soap is the perfect match for the event, because of their inclusion of LGBT (lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transsexual) characters and storylines.

She said: "Through characters like Sean Tully, Hayley Cropper, Todd Grimshaw and, most recently, Sophie Webster, they have helped to raise awareness of the issues facing the LGBT community to millions of loyal viewers.

"The parade is always a highlight of the festival and I look forward to seeing the cast of 'Corrie' take to the streets of the city centre in aid of Manchester Pride and all of the good causes that we support."

Meanwhile, actress Georgia May Foote is joining the 'Coronation Street' on a permanent basis.

The actress - who briefly appeared in the show in January as Jess Burrows - is set to move to the Street in the next few weeks as Izzy Armstrong (Cherylee Houston)'s younger sister Kat.

In a major new storyline, the 19-year-old actress - who previously appeared in 'Grange Hill' - will become romantically involved with one of the Weatherfield residents.

Ian Puleston-Davies will play Izzy and Kat's father Own - who is set to woo unlucky-in-love barmaid Liz McDonald.
