Hollie-Jay Bowes quits Hollyoaks
'Hollyoaks' star Hollie-Jay Bowes, who has played Michaela McQueen since 2006, has announced she is leaving the Channel 4 in the next six months to ''find herself''.
Hollie-Jay Bowes has quit 'Hollyoaks'.
The 21-year-old actress - who has played rowdy Michaela McQueen since 2006 - has confirmed she will be leaving the Channel 4 soap within the next six months so she can "find herself".
She tweeted: "This past four years have been incredible but I think it's time to find myself again! I'm officially leaving 'Hollyoaks' in the next six months!"
As well as starring in the soap, Hollie-Jay also fronts band Jeanie in the Radiator and her departure has sparked rumours she is planning to focus on her music career.
The actress has also confirmed rumours an alien is set to join the 'Hollyoaks' cast in an upcoming extra terrestrial storyline involving Elliot Bevan (Garnon Davies).
She confirmed to fans on twitter: "It's an actual storyline."
Hollie-Jay is not the only star leaving the soap in the next few months, with Melissa Walton (Loretta Jones), Kevin Sacre (Jake Dean) and Gerard McCarthy (Kris Fisher) all filming their final scenes on the show yesterday (08.06.10).
Melissa said on her final day: "Am now blubbing wreck! Gonna miss everyone here so much!"
Gerard was equally as upset, confessing: "Am close to tears already! Sad I know..."
The show has undergone many big changes since Paul Marquess - who has been dubbed 'The Axe Man' - took over as producer earlier this year, when he promised to inject more fun into the soap.
However, since he took over the show has recorded some of its lowest ever ratings, with only 640,000 viewers tuning in last Friday (04.06.10).
