US actor John Barrowman admits he doesn't want to limit himself to just one kind of TV role.

John Barrowman doesn't want to stick to one kind of role.

The 43-year-old actor - who recently filmed the role of Patrick Logan in US comedy drama 'Desperate Housewives' - does not like to be limited in his career and tries to play as many different characters and genres as possible.

He said told Hello! magazine: "I'm an actor and an entertainer. You wouldn't tell a plumber he's only allowed to do sinks.

"I can do theatre, telly, singing - it's all part of my business. I think people will be able to separate what I do. They've seen me play heroic Captain Jack and a very camp Nazi in 'The Producers'. The baddie is just another rung on the ladder."

Discussing his most recent role in 'Desperate Housewives', John has revealed he was nervous when he first met the cast - including big-name actresses Teri Hatcher, Marcia Cross, Felicity Huffman and Eva Longoria Parker.

He explained: "I don't tend to get star struck but my first day on set I went to a read-through with the cast. I was surrounded by all of the housewives. I kept saying in my head, 'Don't mess up!'

"Then when I got back to my bit, the producer Marc Cherry introduced me and they all applauded and it was fine after that."
