Simon Cowell expects DeWyze win
Music mogul Simon Cowell admits he thinks Lee DeWyze will beat fellow 'American Idol' contestant Crystal Bowersox and be crowned the winner of the reality show
Simon Cowell thinks Lee DeWyze will win 'American Idol'.
The music mogul is convinced the 24-year-old singer/songwriter will beat fellow hopeful Crystal Bowersox, also 24, and be crowned winner of the US reality singing show during tomorrow's (26.05.10) highly-anticipated final.
He said: "If you'd asked me five or six weeks ago, 100 per cent I would have said Crystal Bowersox. But now I've changed my mind. I think Lee DeWyze is going to win.
"He's worked in a paint shop. He's talented. He hasn't had any real breaks in life, and this has given him a shot, and I like that."
The singers will give their final performances tonight (25.05.10), ahead of tomorrow's finale - which will be Simon's final episode on the show he has worked on for nine series.
He told fellow judge Ellen DeGeneres on her chat show: "I am feeling a bit sad because we're nearly there. But at the same time, do you remember that last three weeks when you were leaving school, and you kind of couldn't wait to get out? It's a little bit like that. I'm not being ungrateful. I've had a fantastic time, and the show changed my life, but I just kind of knew it was time to do something different."
The 50-year-old star also admit he feels "guilty" about announcing his departure on the same day Ellen joined the judging panel - which is also made up of Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi.
He added: "I do actually feel guilty about that. Two hours before your starting, I held a press conference to say, by the way, I'm leaving. Nice way for you to start."
Tonight's show will also include a performance by Will Young - whose number one single 'Leave Right Now' will be the track released by the eventual winner.
'American Idol' will be aired in the UK tomorrow (26.05.10) night.
