Audrey Roberts swaps cobbles for sunshine
'Coronation Street' legend Audrey Roberts is set to move to Greece with her escort love Lewis Archer after they put in an offer on a hotel
'Coronation Street's Audrey Roberts is to move to Greece with her escort lover Lewis Archer (Nigel Havers).
The hair salon owner - played by actress Sue Nicholls - is expected to leave Weatherfield and flee to the sunny country when she and her boyfriend put in an offer on a hotel.
Audrey says: "I don't want any ties. I'm selling up completely and going to live on Alonissos with Lewis and that's that."
After hearing news of the surprise move, hairdressers Maria Connor (Samia Smith) and Natasha Blakeman (Rachel Leskovac) offer to buy the salon when Audrey turns down her grandson David Platt's (Jack P. Shepherd) offer of becoming the manager and running it for her.
It is thought the soap legend is keen to move away after the stresses of her daughter Gail McIntyre (Helen Worth)'s battle to be cleared of murdering her husband Joe McIntyre.
Bosses on the soap told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "With her daughter Gail facing life in jail, it can't be denied Audrey would want to bid farewell to the Street."
This upcoming storyline is good news for Sue - who has appeared in the soap since 1979 - as she is enjoying working closely with Nigel.
A source said: "It's a breath of fresh air for her."
The 66-year-old actress recently revealed her character was "bowled over" when she first met Lewis.
She said: "She's narked by everybody saying, 'He's just an escort', but she does become very clingy. It's a side of Audrey you haven't really seen. She suddenly realises - and pretends she doesn't - that she has the hots for him."
