Danielle Hope can't understand why she won 'Over The Rainbow'.
The 18-year-old student was crowned champion of the BBC One show on Saturday night (22.05.10), winning the role of Dorothy in a new production of 'The Wizard of Oz', but admits she never expected to be popular with the public because she has suffers from poor self-esteem.
She said: "I am so boring. I never thought I'd win in a million years.
"I didn't see why anyone would be interested in me because I'm just a normal person. I'm not super confident, I've never really believed in myself."
Despite her talent, Danielle - who beat fellow hopefuls Lauren Samuels and Sophie Evans to the coveted role - admits she was always too nervous to perform on the stage.
Talking about taking on the part of Rizzo in a school production of 'Grease' when she was 11, Danielle said: "The teachers made me do it - and I found it incredibly easy to become another person up on stage.
"It was an escape, something that I could do, finally. It was just so right."
However, she has now promised to overcome her nerves and prove to the public they made the right decision in choosing her.
She said: "It's time I believed in my talent and just enjoyed it. I have this gift and I want to use that and give the public back what they've given to me."
