Former 'This Morning' presenter Richard Madeley has confirmed he was approached about replacing Adrian Chiles on 'The One Show'.

Richard Madeley has confirmed he was approached about hosting 'The One Show'.

The veteran presenter has been one of several names linked to replacing Adrian Chiles on the BBC's flagship show and admits his agent was asked if he would be interested in the job.

He said: "Every presenter under the age of 79 has been linked with the mammoth task of replacing Adrian. I was approached informally in Cannes, the TV festival down there, about a month ago - not personally, but my agent.

"That's all that happened. They said, 'Are you interested?' and I said, 'I don't know. I could be,' and we might have a meeting, we might not."

However, Richard - most famous for fronting 'This Morning' with wife Judy Finnigan - would only be interested in doing occasional stints on the show as he doesn't want to be tied down.

He added to BANG Showbiz: "If it were to happen, I'd only want to do it on an occasional basis. I don't want to tie myself down to another four or five days a week, I did that for 21 years with Judy. I'd need a lot of persuading to do something with that regularity, so it's unlikely, but it's in the air."

Meanwhile, comedian Jason Manford has also reportedly been lined up for the 'One Show' job after he bonded better with female host Christine Bleakley better than other hopefuls Matt Allwright, Matt Baker, Matt Smith, Nick Hancock and Austin Healey.

A source said: "Jason is seen by many in TV as a rising star."
