Casey James was voted off 'American Idol' last night (19.05.10).
The surfer-come-cowboy lost out in the semi-finals to Lee DeWyze and Crystal Bowersox, who will now face off in show finale next week.
The 27-year-old guitarist performed a laid-back version of Eric Hutchinson's 'OK, It's Alright With Me' with singer Michael Lynch, which was followed by criticism from the judges Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, Ellen DeGeneres and Kara DioGuardi.
Simon said: "That was a dud song choice, I'm afraid. But you sounded good."
Randy added: "It was just kind of all right for me."
Chat show host-turned-judge Ellen was also unimpressed.
She said: "This was do or die. I felt the same way."
Upon learning his fate, Casey told the crowd and panel he was thankful for the opportunity and enjoyed the experience of being on the show.
He said: "I can't believe it. I'm so thankful for the opportunity. It's been an amazing, amazing journey. And I'm just honoured I'm here. It's amazing."
Crystal is now widely favoured to win the singing competition, which will take place on May 25 with the winner announced on May 26.
Meanwhile, P Diddy has admitted he would love to replace multi-millionaire music mogul Simon next year when he leaves to launch the US version of 'The X Factor'.
The rapper told MTV News: "I have been fronting all this time, trying to act like I don't want that spot. But I spoke to Simon's business manager, and I found out how much that boy makes a week. I am praying right now to 'American Idol.'
"I want everybody to get on Twitter, MySpace, Facebook and say that Diddy should get the Simon spot - but for the same amount of money that Simon was getting, else it's a deal-breaker."
