Michael Douglas surprised by love
Michael Douglas admits he was taken by surprise when he fell for Catherine Zeta Jones because he was happy as a single guy.
Michael Douglas was "bowled over" when he met Catherine Zeta Jones.
The 65-year-old actor, who married the Welsh beauty in 2000, never expected to find love because he was so happy being single.
He said: "She was a tremendous surprise. I was getting along quite well as a single guy and then I got struck down. I was bowled over by Catherine."
Discussing their success as a couple, the 'Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps' actor says the secret is to always be pleasant to one another.
He said: "It doesn't hurt to be nice to each other. We sometimes make more of an effort with strangers than we do with the people closest to us. It's just a mutual respect and a good sense of humour."
Michael also claims he and his wife Catherine - who is 25 years younger than him - share most duties to look after their children Dylan, nine and Carys, seven, but he currently has to do the majority of domestic duties because of her busy work schedule on Broadway play 'A Little Night Music'.
He said: "We've just moved back to New York so the kids will enter new schools. We're feeling our way as Catherine's doing eight performances a week for the first time in 20 years.
"I'm having a little sleep deprivation trying to stay up to see her when she comes home and then get up the kids to school in the morning, but I'm enjoying it."
