Michael Lynche was voted off 'American Idol' last night (12.05.10).

Crystal Bowersox, Lee DeWyze and Casey James will now battle it out for a spot in the final after the 26-year-old personal trainer received the fewest public votes for his rendition of Michael Jackson's 'Will You Be There'.

Discussing his departure during movie week, Michael said: "It was tough. It's a really big song."

Meanwhile, the remaining three contestants plan to return to their hometowns to thank residents for their support.

Musician Crystal said: "Everyone's incredibly excited for me, and I couldn't be more excited for them. I've heard that things were looking pretty dismal back home, and now everyone is rallying because they have something to believe in."

Sales clerk James is also touched by the backing he has received from friends, loved ones and neighbours back home and is looking forward to thanking them in person.

He said: "I know they're rooting for me like crazy and voting their butts off, so I owe them a huge thank you. I'll never be able to show it enough. Even saying thank you a million times wouldn't be enough."

Next week's semi-final will see the trio performing a song of their own choice and another selected by the judges.
