Katy Perry loves 'California Gurls'
Katy Perry has unveiled the title of her next single will be 'California Gurls', and was written in response to the Jay-Z and Alicia Keys' hit 'Empire State Of Mind'.
Katy Perry's next single will be called 'California Gurls'.
The 'Waking Up In Vegas' singer is releasing her second album this summer, and Katy wrote the first single - which is rumoured to feature rapper Snoop Dogg - in response to the Jay-Z and Alicia Keys' hit 'Empire State Of Mind'.
She said: "I had this title, this idea. I was like you know it's so great that 'Empire State of Mind' is huge and everybody has like the New York song,
"But what the f**k? What about Los Angeles? What about California?"
Katy gave her ideas to songwriters Dr Luke and Max Martin, who have collaborated with her on previous tracks 'Hot n Cold' and 'I Kissed a Girl', and describes the results as a cross between Prince and house music.
She added to Rolling Stone magazine: "So we took the references of Prince, which is always a great reference, and we took a lot of like 90's kind of like, 'Baby if you want me, you got to show me love,' you know that almost house music, some of those references."
Katy has previously tweeted to say her new, as-yet-untitled album is complete, and she has already been blasting a preview to fans from her car in New York.
She tweeted: "Having a dance party in car right now in Times Square dancing 2 my song California Gurls. We're gonna have so much fun this summer! Gahhh! (sic)"
'California Gurls' is not a cover of the Beach Boys song 'California Girls', and will make its debut on US radio on May 25.
