Sue Cleaver staying in Weatherfield
Sue Cleaver has signed a new 18-month contract to stay on as Eileen Grimshaw in 'Coronation Street', dispelling her fears she would be sacked after being caught drink driving.
Sue Cleaver has signed a new 18-month contract to stay on as Eileen Grimshaw in 'Coronation Street'.
The actress was worried her recent conviction for drink driving would see her follow in the footsteps of Steven Arnold (Ashley Peacock) and be axed by new producer Phil Collinson - but has instead been told she has a long future with the soap.
A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Sue loves playing Eileen. She is so excited at the great story being lined up for her."
Sue, who received a 17-month ban after being caught twice over the legal drink drive limit, said: "Corrie is the best job in the world."
The 44-year-old actress was also ordered to pay a £1,000 fine and an extra £100 in costs earlier this month.
According to reports, Sue - who has played Eileen for 10 years - will be able to reduce her ban by four months if she takes part in a safe driving course.
The cast of the soap were warned to clean up their acts or face the sack soon after Sue's arrest, which followed that of Ryan Thomas, who plays her on-screen son Jason Grimshaw, after he was fined £2,020 after he crashed his £25,000 Chrysler and fled the scene last October.
