Richard Madeley has reportedly joined Richard Hammond as favourite to be the new main male presenter on 'The One Show'.

Richard Madeley is in the running to be the new host of 'The One Show'.

The veteran presenter - best known for his work with wife Judy Finnigan -and 'Top Gear' host Richard Hammond are reportedly favourites to front the programme alongside Christine Bleakley following the recent departure of Adrian Chiles.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "Richard Hammond is still being talked about as a solid pair of hands.

"But Richard Madeley is also another strong candidate. He's been off the box for a while and is looking for a decent comeback gig.

"There have been informal discussions and Richard's keen as it's a great slot.

"He's an old live TV pro so it would make sense. And it's good exposure for him as Christine is becoming a real hot property."

Adrian quit the show as he was unhappy with producer's plans to have Chris Evans present the BBC's flagship tea time programme on Fridays.

As no replacement presenter has yet been found, Matt Allwright will front the show for the next two weeks.

However, his commitment to 'Watchdog' means he cannot work on the Thursday programme, with 'Have I Got News For You' panellist Paul Merton set to step in tomorrow (29.04.10).
