Kate Ford was worried about returning to 'Coronation Street' because she didn't want to leave her son.

The actress' jailbird character Tracy Barlow will be seen manipulating Gail McIntyre in prison in the coming weeks, and although she is excited about returning for a major storyline she worries how 22-month-old Otis will cope without her.

Kate - who is married to TV producer Jon Connerty - said: "Anyone who has a baby and spends time at home knows you lose confidence a bit.

"Luckily, Otis started going to nursery about two months before I started back at Corrie, so I was used to having a little bit of time away from him. And, luckily, I found him a really good nursery. He actually runs in, he loves it so much."

Tracy, 32, admits it was great returning to the role, especially because she could meet up with so many of her castmates again.

She added to new! magazine: "I've loved it more than I actually expected to love it. It feels as if I've only been away three months, rather than three years.

"I kept in touch with Shobna Gulati (Sunita Alahan) and Julia Hawarth (Claire Peacock) and Samia Smith, (Maria Connor) and we used to email each other and compare baby stories. So it was great to see some of them."
