BBC 'grateful' to Adrian Chiles
BBC's director of television Jana Bennett has admitted she is sad to see Adrian Chiles leave them for ITV and has admitted she is ''grateful'' for his hard work at making 'The One Show' such a success
BBC bosses are "grateful" to Adrian Chiles for making 'The One Show' a success.
Jana Bennett - who is the network's director of television - has admitted she is sad to see the TV presenter leave his daily magazine-style show, which grew in popularity when he was joined on the sofa by Christine Bleakley, in favour of rival channel ITV.
She said: "There can be no doubt that the success of 'The One Show' owes much to the partnership between Adrian and Christine. They have enjoyed nearly three years together and I am grateful to Adrian for all his hard work."
Adrian announced he was leaving on Monday (19.04.10) after being offered a £6 million, four-year deal to front ITV's 'GMTV' and this summer's World Cup football coverage.
It is believed the TV star made up his mind to go after bosses on 'The One Show' announced plans to replace him on Friday night programmes with radio DJ Chris Evans.
Jana is thrilled about the upcoming union between Chris and Christine, and hopes to find a "good match" to replace Adrian on the sofa.
She said: "With change comes opportunity. Going forward we have got some great plans that will build on the current success of the show. On Fridays we will do something a little more entertainment focussed with a new hour-long show with Christine and Chris.
"For the rest of the week the plan is to introduce a co-host who is a good match for the show and for Christine in particular, who has become a real star in recent years."
