Corrie family for Izzy Armstrong
'Coronation Street' bosses plan to bring in a new family for disabled character Izzy Armstrong, played by actress Cherylee Houston
'Coronation Street' bosses are bringing in a family for Izzy Armstrong.
The disabled character - played by actress Cherylee Houston, who is in a wheelchair - has been such a success since she arrived in Weatherfield, bosses on the ITV1 soap are now searching for actors to play her father, sister and brother to make it easier to integrate her into bigger storylines.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "Cherylee is a great actress. She's done really well and is absolutely perfect. We want her as a permanent fixture so we're getting her a family to give her more scope.
"There are lots of exciting storylines coming up."
Izzy first appeared in the soap - which is based in a Manchester suburb - earlier this year, as the long-running programme's first full-time disabled character.
Since her arrival she has become a new romantic interest for unlucky-in-love character Kirk Sutherland (Andy Whyment) after the pair met through an internet dating website.
Earlier this year, Cherylee - who suffers from a degenerative tissue disorder - said: "I grew up with 'Coronation Street' and can't wait to start on the show."
