Misunderstood TV star Alexa Chung
Alexa Chung has admitted she doesn't think American celebrities understand her British sense of humour
Alexa Chung doesn't think American's understand her British sense of humour.
The presenter - whose US show 'It's On with Alexa Chung' was cancelled after two series - believes the main reason her TV career failed to take off overseas was because her celebrity guests and viewers couldn't handle her jokes.
She told Radio Times magazine: "Sometimes I'd be in the middle of interviewing - insert starlet's name here - and I'd aim to have a joke and be irreverent, and then it would transpire that they weren't getting it and I had to switch back and do a straight interview."
One star who was more accepting was Lady Gaga, although Alexa claims she failed to make eye contact with her while being questioned.
She said: "She was good. I mean, she didn't look me in the eye, but that's not something I require."
Alexa rose to fame presenting Channel 4's 'Popworld' in 2006, where she admits she suffered badly from nerves.
However, the brunette beauty has finally conquered her phobia.
She said: "None now. It's worrying how comfortable I get. I lose my train of thought or say weird things."
While she feels at ease presenting, the 26-year-old star has joked she would love to play a barmaid in US drama series 'Mad Men'.
She added: "And serve Don a drink, not even talk. Just wear a rad outfit and he'll sort of check out my bum as I walk out."
