Audrey Roberts 'clingy' over escort
Sue Nicholls admits her 'Coronation Street' alter-ego is set for devastating heartbreak when she realises she's fallen in love with an escort.
Audrey Roberts becomes "clingy" when she realises she's fallen for her escort lover in 'Coronation Street'.
The hair salon owner - who is portrayed by actress Sue Nicholls - will be "bowled over" by her new love interest Lewis Archer (Nigel Havers), but won't know how to react when she discovers she has strong feelings for a man who dates other women for a living.
Sue told DigitalSpy: "She's just a bit bowled over by him at the minute. She's narked by everybody saying, 'He's just an escort', but she does become very clingy. It's a side of Audrey you haven't really seen. She suddenly realises - and pretends she doesn't - that she has the hots for him."
The 66-year-old actress also revealed her alter-ego feels worthless when she discovers his little black book full of his other clients' details.
Sue explained: "It brings it home to her that she's just one of many. It's a diary in which he writes down all the details of his clients to keep him organised - whether they've got kids or dogs or cats or ex-husbands so he can have his conversation right.
"Then it comes to Audrey and apart from my family and my shoe size, it says, 'Average tipper'. Average tipper? How hurtful is that? It's awful."
Audrey will try and accept Lewis' profession for a while, before realising he will never be able to commit to her full time.
Sue added: "I think she's going to try but I think something will happen when he's rubbing her nose in it too much... I don't know - I don't think he's the marrying kind but he's wonderful for a good time. I don't think she'd marry."
