Adrian Chiles' 1m ITV offer
Adrian Chiles has reportedly been offered a £1 million contract by ITV to host their sports coverage and flagship breakfast show 'GMTV'.
Adrian Chiles has been offered a £1 million contract by ITV.
The presenter is reportedly set to quit the BBC after being infuriated by the network after they announced Chris Evans is to take over from him on 'The One Show' on Fridays and is now seeking a new deal elsewhere.
According to reports, ITV want the 43-year-old star to front their coverage of Champions League, FA Cup and England football matches, and also hope he will become the new anchorman for 'GMTV' under the terms of their proposed three-year deal.
A source close to Adrian - who previously turned down a £6 million long-term offer from ITV in favour of staying with the BBC - said: "Adrian doesn't want to fall out with the BBC but he has been hurt by the way the BBC seems to have gone out of its way to try and relaunch the career of Chris Evans while putting 'The One Show's reputation at risk.
"He has built up an audience from nothing to more than six million, five nights a week and really knows his audience. Chris Evans is taking over, as he did with Terry Wogan on Radio 2, a readymade following.
"Adrian feels it is better to leave now while 'The One Show' is at the top rather than hang around to see what happens."
ITV are hoping to move quickly to announce the deal.
A source said: "We want to make an announcement as soon as possible so they can start making changes on 'GMTV'."
Another network insider added: "This is a massive signing for us. Adrian is a top talent and the public love his style.
"We were quite frankly staggered by the way the BBC treated him, and made an immediate offer, which we're delighted he's accepted. This is a real coup for ITV."
The BBC are reportedly lining up Chris Hollins to replace Adrian on 'The One Show' alongside Christine Bleakley.
A spokesperson for Adrian said he is "examining his future".
