Sex symbol Matt Smith
'Doctor Who' actor Matt Smith has admitted he is ''embracing'' his new sex symbol status and is flattered by the female attention he now receives
Matt Smith is "embracing" his new sex symbol status.
The 'Doctor Who' actor - who has gained a huge female following since he took over as the new Time Lord in the latest sci-fi series - finds it strange he is so popular with women but is flattered by the attention.
When asked if he liked being a sex symbol, he said: "Am I really? I'll take that as a compliment. What can you do about it apart from enjoy the compliment? It's not like it's tangible thing. Sex symbol. I don't quite know what to do with it apart from smile and say - if that is indeed the case - 'Hurrah!' I shall embrace it with open arms."
The 27-year-old star has also dispelled rumours his alter-ego will become romantically involved with his assistant Amy Pond - played by red-haired beauty Karen Gillan.
He added to the Chicago Sun Times: "There is always room for romance in 'Doctor Who', but to be honest, the idea of the companion and The Doctor getting together is a bit of a tired story by now. There is only so far it can go. What happens? So, they get together, travel around the universe, end of story? There has to be more to it than that. It has to be about adventure, magic and exploration. Those are the things we're interested in this season, really."
